International Women’s Day — The Strength Women Carry

The 8th of March always makes me pause and think about the strength that lives in so many women’s lives. Not the kind of strength that seeks attention or recognition, but the strength that shows itself in everyday moments.

The strength of women who hold families together while carrying their own worries.
The strength of women who rebuild their lives after loss. The strength of women who begin again when they thought they had no energy left to start over.

Sometimes strength looks like courage. Sometimes it looks like endurance.
And sometimes it looks like kindness — the simple act of caring for others even when life has asked a lot from you.

Over the years, I have met many women whose stories would never appear in books or newspapers, yet their resilience has stayed with me. Women who faced disappointment, family struggles, loneliness, illness, or uncertainty — and still continued to move through life with dignity, warmth, and generosity of heart.

There is something deeply moving about that kind of resilience. The 8th of March is not only about celebrating achievements. It is also about recognising the countless ways women care for others every day: the emotional labour, the patience, the effort to keep relationships alive, the love they give to children, parents, partners, friends, and communities.

Many women spend so much of their lives giving that they rarely stop to recognise their own strength.

Today is a good day to remember and celebrate it. It is also a day to appreciate the women around us — friends who listen, mothers who guide, daughters who inspire, colleagues who support, and even the women we meet briefly but who leave us feeling understood.

And perhaps it is also a moment for each woman to acknowledge something important within herself. The courage it takes to keep going. The tenderness she carries. The wisdom life has carved into her heart.

Women are often described as strong. But the deeper truth is that women are resilient. They bend without breaking. They fall and find their way back. They continue to love even after life has tested them.

That is something worth honouring.

So today, on the 8th of March, I want to say this: To every woman who has carried more than anyone realised…To every woman who continues to stand, care, rebuild, and hope…

You are seen. You matter. And the strength you carry makes the world kinder and more human.

Happy International Women’s Day!
